Friday 30th April 2004…

Work… In London for the day.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thursday 29th April 2004… Dreadful night of sleep which constantly interrupted by Lillian wanting to run about the house from about 4am onwards, to add insult to injury I left the house for work with the devil fur ball sleeping in the front room!
Yet more Doobie Brother listening this morning, Rolling down the Highway seemed an apt title for a song as I went down the A38 in the wonder mobile this morning
Work…
Return journey home saw a change of musical mood with a King Crimson performance from 1972 the Zoom club in Hamburg, Fripps angle grinding sounding guitar lines on Larks part 2 a delight to hear again.
To the trotters running which did me the world of good, felt elated after it all even though it all seemed rather painful at the time, tea shower and to bed
Wednesday 28th April 2004… Early morning start with Janet back to work, looks like there could be a change in the weather today although forecasters keep telling us it is going to rain, it finally looks as thought they may have it right even if a few days out from their original prediction.
Work…
Have managed to sell a large number of CD’s for a reasonable price, why listen to a Zappa cover band when I have a pile of recordings by the artist to listen too in the first place!
Club night at the tennis club a no go due to the weather, wasted the evening trying to get the PC working properly, as per usual we have an unknown IT expert in the house who seems to make rather unusual adjustments to the operating system.
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tuesday 27th April 2004… Early morning call from Lillian who sat on my chest purring away until she woke me up to let her out; it’s the birds singing in the garden which seem to making her active so lately in the morning.

Solo drive this morning to the musical tones of the Dobbie Brothers, disc 1 from the box set which features tracks from their early albums, can’t think of another band which sounded like them, Gene Simmons is still running the band today.

Work…

Ordered reciprocating saw from the hire shop for the weekend to cut the trees.

Was to have a quite evening in, Roberto phoned and changed all that to say that Saltash were playing their final game of the season at Kimberly against Torpoint, entertaining 2-2 draw and a couple of beers in the bar after rounded the day off well.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monday 26th April 2004… Paul was up before any of us this morning, he is teaching at Estover School all week; Janet lucky girl has a couple of days off.
Work…
I was going to go to tennis to see the men’s team play their first match of the season, daughter wanted to go for run so we went off over the Tamar Bridge together and back again, arrived home completely finished for the evening shower and to bed!!!
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sunday 25th April 2004… Yet more poached eggs for breakfast, this seems to be the weekend staple diet since we got the 21st century egg poacher. I then went of to see my Mother who is not too ill at present and is feeling the effect of taking some rather potent medication. Also managed a brief visit to A&R.

Home just after midday via B&Q with a selection of heathers for the garden.

F1 which gave hope briefly that the reds care may not be invincible all season because thankfully a Brit has got his act together (Jenson Button) and will give the red cars some sort of run for their money.

Tennis mid afternoon the first game of the year on the hallowed grass played well considering the state of the hand and a twinge or too from the knee.

Barbeque with Stephen, as per usual we cooked too much food and will spend much of the early part of the week eating the leftovers.

Protracted Kitchen clear up we seem to have somehow used all of the plate’s cups and glasses for tonight’s meal, off to bed in the hope that I shall be ready for another week of work tomorrow.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday 24th April 2004… Good weather clear skies and Lillian managed to stay asleep until after seven this morning!
Start of Mini Tennis…loads of children, we are going to run a third session to accommodate them and we have a waiting list. After telling all of the children to wear a hat and bring sun block I did not do either and got much burnt, I now have a beetroot red head and a neck, which looks much burnt.
Joy, joy of the day Paul won the in the Senior Counties cup first time ever that Cornwall had won the competition, sporting Brit of the day was Jenson Button who is on Pole for the Miola F1 race tomorrow, hopefully someone can at last give the Red ones a run for their money.
Afternoon spent in the garden cutting the grass and planting, also managed a trip to the dump to get rid of the several bags of garden rubbish and got around to giving the bench a coat of oil.
A quite evening in tonight I seem to have run out of energy after a busy day, bath in which I yet again fell asleep in and almost drowned, thankfully my snoring awoke me before I disappeared under the water.
To bed early in some effort to re-coup some of the loss of sleep from Friday late night out, I also may have sunstroke according to Janet.
MM…
Friday 23rd April 2004… SAS cat got in again this morning, which ended up with both Basil, & Lillian getting their act together and driving it out of the cat flap, I followed up with chasing it around the garden with a water spray.
Work…
Felt terrible that I have had to turn people away from the mini tennis sessions but we have a full house and with Richard and I being the only two willing hands at the moment it, would be senseless to take any more children so I have had to start a waiting list.
Larry Miller…at the Cooperage tonight with Stephen, we also met Sarah from work there, although the music was splendid and Larry did a good show the endurance test to see such an event was too great for me. As per usual I had the tallest man in the world stand in front of me and the smoke was unbearable, I don’t think I can endure many more nights like this in the future regardless of the quality of the music on offer.
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thursday 22nd April 2004… Early morning call from Lillian who had either Janet or I in and out of bed from 5am onwards.

Work…

Had wanted to run this evening but I had a tennis meeting at Callington tonight, the SE Cornwall Tennis Forum. Even less of a turn out for the second meeting than the first, only three of us but I did get a few things sorted for the club which made it worthwhile turning up.

Late tea, session on the PC, cats in and to bed.

Wednesday 21st April 2004… Another day-off, bonus of which is Janet is also home though we cannot do a lot with the house full of builders.

Janet shopping, me in the garden with the rain teeming down planting some trees, which had to be done as I have had them for over a week and I was worried they were going to die before I got then into the ground, as per usual the site I had chosen for them contained a single centimeter of earth and them I hit shellet. The moment I came in from the garden it stopped raining and the sun came out!

Put some tiles up in the downstairs toilet and then finally had a bath to ease by back, which had not enjoyed all the physical pressure it had been under digging away in the garden during the day.

To the Bodmin v St Blazey footy game in the evening with Roberto, Steve and Martin, which turned out to be a let down (on the pitch) a 1-1 draw was ideal for St. Blazey but almost ensured that Bodmin ended their challenge for the League this season, We were all disappointed and surprised at the lack of effort by Bodmin who needed to win the game.

Tuesday 20th April 2004…

Work… to London for the day

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monday 19th April 2004… Today the house was full of builders trying to put both the bathroom and kitchen ceiling into some sort of repair, both cats none too pleased about all the banging and crashing about.
Work… Unexpectedly I was supposed to have the day off.
Home to tea a slump in the settee and then off out for a run, shower and to bed
Samuel had been to his test for his Apprenticeship application, which had gone reasonably well, only problem would seem having to wire a plug and light switch, he apparently ran out of time to finish it, he was candidate 315 which will hopefully give him some idea that they did not just run the day of tests just for him. How can you convince a 16 year old that the world is not just waiting for him and that employment is not the easiest of things to obtain?
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sunday 18th April 2004… The day not off to a good start Laura managed to upset a jelly in the fridge which Janet had made thus the rest of the morning was spent clearing up the mess, it seemed to have got everywhere. Janet none too pleased to return from shopping to find even after considerable scrubbing by myself that everything had a sticky felling to it

Men’s team practice at the tennis club which was an endurance test, I really should not have played as my hand is still not healed enough and the combination of pain from my hand driving rain and what seemed like sub zero temperatures made it all pretty unpleasant.

Home to furniture removals to empty the kitchen ready for the builders tomorrow, they pan to make a start on the bathroom followed by the kitchen ceiling later in the week

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday 17th April 2004… To Plymouth via the Saltash ferry, which was a rather novel way to travel to the city, which lasted for 45 mins, the blustery NE wind was a constant reminder that I should have taken a coat with me.
Question of the day, why do all of our navel boats look like they need a decent coat of paint?
Home by mid afternoon and snoozing on the settee, which I blamed on the amount of sea air intake I must have had, could not even stay awake to watch the Rockford files.
Paul Lost in the SWL rep game so out the window went his trip to Italy during the summer. Laura off out to a party for the evening and Samuel is out but where is not quite known though our constant phone him on his mobile to keep a check on what he is up too all evening will I fell sure irritate him through out the evening.
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Friday 16th April 2004… Legs ache from running yesterday, hobbled to the paper shop and back, large breakfast of bacon eggs and backed beans felt incredibly hungry this morning.

Was to spend the morning in the garden but it started raining so that was abandoned, remainder of day spent in the dining room trying to clear it out in preparation for the builders who will be arriving on Monday to make a start on the bathroom and kitchen.

I have far too many CD’s!

Highlight of evening was Jack Dee who presented TOPP 2 which featured not only the rather wonderful Bogy video ( On the back of a lorry in NY) but also had Free playing All right Now difficult to take in that Paul Kossoff (the guitar player) was dead in 1976 within 6 years of making of the record.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thursday 15th April 2004… Janet off to work but not me horay…She has left me a rather long list of things to get on with. One of which sitting on the PC reading e-mails are not on there!
Busy day which went very quickly, Firstly yet more gardening managed to plant several plants which we had brought at the weekend along with a couple which A&R had very kindly gave to us, I’m beginning to think that we should have a plague somewhere in the garden saying many of the Plants in this garden donated by A&R.
Everything went into disarray mid morning with Lillian going up the large Elm tree and getting stuck up there I then had to spend the remainder of the morning coxing her down.
Lunch followed by a trip to the dump to get rid of the rubbish from the weekend and back into the garden to do a spot of pruning and clipping to the clematises.
Janet phoned to say she would be home early so I made a start on the tea and continued with the CD sorting which I’m at last beginning to make some headway with.
Running with the Trotters to round the day off, which was very hard for some reason could barely keep up. Reviving bath to the sounds of Richard & Linda Thompson ‘I Want to see the Bright lights tonight’ crashed into bed and instantly to sleep.
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Wednesday 14th April 2004… Early morning start should have been on holiday this also applies to yesterday.

Work…

First tennis club night of the season and we had some good weather to go with it managed to play until eight even with the doggy hand, which is mending quicker than expected. I may well adopt the two handed backhand which worked rather well tonight.

Home to tea and to bed, far too tired and teesy to be a round anyone, hopefully good nights sleep will be the ideal remedy.

MM…

Tuesday 13th April 2004…

Work…

Late one out with customers until midnight.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monday 12th April 2004… Awoken during the night by Samuel and his friend, who both returned from camping, they found it too cold.
Early run, which was needed after yesterdays chocolate bonanza, picked up the paper on the way back and made some headway with the crossword over breakfast.
Janet and I out for the day a quick drop into Trago Mills to check out prices for wood log roll which was a bad move as most if not all the population of the mainland had the same idea, then onward to Cardingham woods where we found some peace and tranquility. Janet and I then spent much of the day trying to find our way out of the woodland because as per normal we did not take a map with us!
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sunday 11th April 2004… Easter day breakfast of mushrooms and a play with the new egg poacher which is a stylish piece of kit recently acquired, then onward out into the garden for the morning removing weeds and planting some of the plants we brought a couple of days ago. Gave up after lunch after spending the morning up and down the steep back of the garden created about five bags of rubbish I decided to call it a day clear up and take it all to the dump.

Mid afternoon saw the arrival of the Wonder Nan’s who as per usual had wanted to do a tour of the local garden centers but had been thwarted as they were all closed today, Janet’s mother was hobbling a round as she had twisted her ankle.

Full house for tea Roast beef and some calorific Chocolate Touché which was wonderful to eat but rather severe on the waistline, children all went out for the evening, Laura to a pub quiz, Paul too watch football and Samuel camping with his friends

Once the kitchen was back under control we spent the remainder of the evening watching Master and Commander. I believe it would be correct to give 2.5 out of four for a critic of the film, Janet slept through the whole film (but then she does seem to do this when ever Russell Crow is in a film) Janet’s mother cat napped, my Mother did stay awake but did asked several questions through out about the plot.

Saturday 10th April 2004… A day wasted… Did not feel I really did anything all day.

To Wilf Dawes for new battery, a no go as he is shut until Tuesday, thank goodness I charged it up all night and hopefully it will keep going until then.

To Vospers to get some touch up paint for car, less said about this the better.

Janet to Newton Abbot for the day for an extensive day of shopping which I decided to give a miss, Janet was quite pleased also as she could shop until she dropped, with out me asking when it would be time to go home repeatedly. I stayed at home to keep Samuel company. Laura and Paul out from the day before, Laura to a party with Matt and Paul went t o see friends in Torquay.

Cleared the garage out managed two bags of rubbish, in between watching Henman and the Canadian chap who thinks he is English beat Luxemburg in the third rubber.

Early part of evening spent sorting through CD’s, which I placed in the dinning room and plan to go through all of the boxes in some effort to bring them under some control and cull where necessary.

MM…

Friday 9th April 2004… Awoken at 5am by cat biting foot!

Gave up trying to get back to sleep and got up watched the news on TV a brief e-mail and surf on the PC before going for a run and collecting the paper.

Breakfast and out to a tour of Garden centers, arrived home mid afternoon, watched Henman with the second rubber in the Davis cup and then went into the garden for the rest of the day with Janet, planting, digging in compost, cutting grass and spreading lawn feed.

Bodmin lost again, Paul arrived home despondent, 3-1 to Wadebridge.

Thursday 8th April 2004…

Work…

Home to a brief chat with wonder Nan who was clearing up the kitchen after Laura had in the boys words tried to kill them by cooking the tea, I must admit I could not find anything wrong with it.

Laura failed driving test!

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wednesday 7th April 2004… Another sleepless night due to throbbing of hand
Work…
Thought I would try and pick up tennis racket, come to conclusion that I will not be playing for a while. Hopefully having rested tired body for the last week I shall get back to running again before the end of the week.
I dashed off just as Janet came in through the door to meet Roberto at the football club, Saltash beat Launceston 4-1, and glad I wore plenty of cloths, as it was freezing cold.
Beer in the bar after and home by ten, very enjoyable.
Laura taking third driving test tomorrow…
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tuesday 6th April 2004… Up and about on my own this morning as children are off for half term and Janet has a day off also.

Work…

Home too late for running brief watch of Arsenal v Chelsea game, Janet took off plaster on my hand to great pain; it looks terrible apparently the air needs to get at it. How she can work in a hospital with the sadistic attitude she has to me is difficult to understand.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Monday 5th April 2004… Managed from 10pm on Sunday through to 5am on Monday morning, not to not sleep a wink due to hand a throbbing.
Work… Taxi picked me up at 6.15am, rest of day spent in London via train into Paddington.
Home 7.30pm, train was late due to a breakdown at Totnes.
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sunday 4th April 2004… A busy day, morning spent digging up and removing grass from an area around the side of the house.

Watched the Red ones unfortunately go faster than all of the others again in Bahrein, highlight was Jenson Button getting another podium finish.

Just to round the day off I managed to pay a visit to Derriford Causality department after trying to slice off part of the palm of my hand with a Stanley knife, I have been very lucky indeed and have managed some how not to cut any tendons in my hand.

MM…

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday 3rd April 2004… Weather not to good wind blowing and raining on and off all morning, the turn out was fantastic we had 16 children turn up to Mini Tennis including the lady from the local paper which will give some publicity to the event.
Come to the conclusion that I can’t stand any sporting team, which wears red colours! Man United put Arsenal out of the FA cup and the Red ones are on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s race in Braham
Also to add to today’s theory the red car would not start!!!
Evening spent at Callington Indoor sports hall, the Tennis club had its start of season tournament there tonight.
MM…
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Friday 2nd April 2004… Awake from 5 am onwards with cat problems SAS got in and Lillian running around the house, to cap it all Basil started howling from under the bed.

Work…

Wonder Nan at the helm tonight I waved goodbye to the lady and made a start on the evening meal, managed to cook spicy potatoes, can’t remember the last time I did this.

Rest of evening spent fretting over how I was going to control twenty children tomorrow morning and thumbing through LTA lesson plans.

MM…

Thursday 1st April 2004…Hallway is full of furniture we are getting rid of some of the large pieces we have, one of which is the dinning room table and chairs although it is a lovely set it is no good for seating more than four people.

Work…

Where did the evening go? I seem to eat tea and that was the end of it and to bed.
